Two-Day Combined Skills Course
with SouthNarc, and Tom Givens
6-7 Nov 2010, Sat-Sun, 9am-6pm both days
Heritage Rifle & Pistol Club, Trussville, Alabama, www.hrpclub.org
This course combines the teaching skills of two veteran specialists to form a seamless self defense system. Southnarc covers the skills needed at the 0-2 yards distance, a critical and often overlooked aspect of defense against criminal attacks. Givens will cover the shooting and tactical skills needed to prevail in the 2-25 yard range envelope. Both men teach integrated skill sets that dove-tail together, minimizing confusion or hesitation, and simplifying training and practice.

Southnarc is a long time narcotics investigator, with several years of undercover experience (hence the name), who currently heads an inter-agency SWAT and counter-drug operation. Topics covered in his segments will include:

  • Managing unknown contacts
  • Parameters and objectives of criminal assaults
  • Awareness and task fixation
  • Kinesic and verbal challenge strategies
  • Recognizing pre-assault cues
  • Preemptive striking
  • Default position
  • Basic blows and regaining initiative
  • In-fight weapon access, drawing from concealment during a struggle.

Southnarc’s segments will include stress inoculation through physical application of the skills against live opponents, both hand to hand and through the use of marking cartridges. Special equipment, including safety gear, is provided.

Givens’ sessions will focus on gun skills designed to work in real-life armed confrontations. Rapid, accurate fire under all conditions will be the focus, along with gunhandling techniques designed to work under stress. Expect to fire 600 rounds of ammunition in dynamic drills that reinforce the lessons learned in Southnarc’s evolutions. All range work will be conducted from concealment, with everyday carry gear. For details on Givens and the training, see Staff Qualifications. This course is not for beginners. Students should have basic handgun skills, including the ability to safely draw/reholster the handgun.

Students will rotate in small groups, and you will be training with one or the other instructor all weekend. Lunch will be on site. This is a very intensive weekend of training. Call Lynn at 901-370-5600 to register. Advance registration is required. Tuition is $450.00. A 50% deposit will hold your space, with the balance due 15 days prior to class time.
