img_draw_stroke.gif - 5579 Bytes
PURPOSE
This is a venue for our students to get practice/experience using their sidearms from concealment under stressful conditions. This is NOT a sanctioned IDPA match, although we do use some IDPA rules for simplicity and continuity. You do not have to be an IDPA member to participate, however, you must be a Rangemaster student.

WHEN/WHERE?
Every Friday night, 6:00pm at RangeMaster

WHAT DO I NEED TO COMPETE?
Handgun (9mm or larger), belt, holster, 2 or more magazines, magazine pouches, approximately 40-70 rounds (may be purchased at the range), concealment clothing, and flashlight (sometimes!).

Cost: $15.00

Principles
To promote the safe and proficient use of guns in "real world" self-defense scenarios.
To offer a practical shooting sport that allows the competitors to concentrate on the development of their shooting skills and fellowship with other like minded shooters.
Course of Fire
Courses of fire will simulate "real world" self-defense scenarios. The maximum number of shots required for any stage will be 18. The majority of shots fired will be under 15 yards and many stages will begin from concealment. Precision close range shooting (accuracy) on the move and at moving targets is encouraged.
Scoring Method
Vickers Count - (modified "IDPA") complete with procedurals, Failure to Do Right, etc.
Minimum Handgun Caliber
At least 9mm (NATO, Parabellum, etc.)
Classes
Shooters are usually divided up by the type of gun they shoot, and by their individual skill level. The gun divisions are Service Pistol, Custom Pistol, Enhanced Pistol, and Revolver.
Other
Tactical Loads (i.e., no loaded magazine is left behind) may be permitted and are encouraged to be performed from cover. Reload methods will be dictated by the Range Officer / course of fire.
Safety Procdures
The Range will be operated as a COLD RANGE, (gun unloaded at all times except when you are on the firing line and have been given the command to load). Unsafe gun handling will result in disqualification from the entire match. Be consider the following:

  • Do not have a magazine in the firearm except when authorized by the range officer (i.e., on the firing line)
  • Do not handle a loaded firearm except while on the firing line.
  • When you approach the line you will follow all commands given by the Range Officer.
  • The muzzle must never be pointed behind the 180 degree firing line except while holstered.
  • Range personnel/spectators should NEVER stand directly behind a shooter during the start command.
  • After completing any fire problem, shooter must unload, show clear, "Fire" downrange (i.e., pull trigger, hammer goes down) and re-holster before turning uprange or leaving the firing line.
  • Finger must be outside the trigger guard until the moment just before firing. The finger will NOT be in the trigger guard during movement.
